Last year many of you visited Pui O for the Chinese Song Thrush, it is not always as it was last year, but overall it is a good site.
Conservation wise, Pui O has been quite good this year. The landfills on the main wet marsh have inactive recently. The only major problem was oil or chemical spill on the west field. Apparently EPD say it herbicides, but who knows.
I believe the best way to instill conservation values in the village is by education. Until 2 or 3 years ago Pui O school had a teacher, who took the children on nature walks. From what I saw of the nature walks they were very positive. A friend and I want to run a short bird watching course this winter, voluntarily, for the local school, the principle seemed quite positive. However we are both English speaking, we were hoping some Chinese speaking birders would like to help. Anybody interested?
Last couple of weeks Pui O has has - Teal, Gargany, BN Oriole, Ruff, RN Stint. Red Turtle Dove. Today - Red Thr Fly, 1 or 2 G C Greenfinches.
Kind regards Paul
