尺蛾科 Geometridae, Geometrinae - Berta sp.

Not certain of this - the three Berta species that occur in Hong Kong are very similar in external appearance. I made notes this afternoon on the differences, and contrived to leave them in the specimen room, so I will have to wait until tomorrow to confirm the identity of the species posted in the photo. I suspect it is not B. chrysolineata, but one of the other two species (i.e. either B. rugosivalva or B. zygophyxia).

Not Plusiinae, but Catocalinae.

Not seen this before, so will do some searching.

High probability this is new for Hong Kong.

Noctuidae

Not something I recognise - looks like a small catocaline or possibly even a hypenine.

even after colour-correcting and gamma correction, I can't place this. Only say it is Noctuoidea - either Noctuidae or Nolidae.
Will have to follow up.

disagree with that - the placement of the black forewing stigmata and the shape of the fasciae (especially the post-medial) is unlike any of those treated in the Cyana guide in the link. There is a strong resemblance in the species to a female Cyana guttifera, but without access to material for comparison, I am most reluctant to say it is guttifera.
I have photos of a further two unidentified Cyana species that remain problematic.

More observations required - i.e. need more people out recording to increase the recording effort to the point where these "rare" species are being observed with sufficient frequency to provide answers to the basic identification questions. Then it will be easier to answer the harder questions like "where, when, why (habitat and host associations)" that then allow questions about need for conservation to be addressed.
