標題: [Other] Lycaenidae - Curetis dentata? [打印本頁]

I saw this in Sai Kung today. I have 3 reference books on HK butterflies that quote status in various categories:  Rare, Uncommon and Found in most country parks.
Firstly, is the species ID correct? Secondly, which of the status categories shown is correct?

Thank you

Shirley -

I have a couple more books that give the status of Toothed Sunbeam Curetis dentata as "common" and "widely distributed".

Based on my own experience, however, I would say that this species is "uncommon". I've only ever seen it at Tai Po Kau.

Of course, others may have different experiences....

See this may do some help: ... 6%E5%88%97%E8%A1%A8

It's written by HKLS and updated a month ago.

Seem to be (uncommon) but widely distributed

Hi David. "Shirley" is actually Andrew (my wife registered for me!!) Hardacre and I took this in the Lions Nature Education Centre yesterday. I also spent ages chasing (but failing to photograph) Lamproptera curius. I didn't recognize it and trawled my reference books when I got home. Thanks for replying.

Thanks Yip. I don't read Chinese, but my wife, Shirley is Chinese so I'll ask her to help me out. I guess from the code it is 'uncommon'. Good link. Much appreciated.

PS I was walking near our house today and saw Curetis dentata again! And photographed it. This was in the village of Lung Mei so Sai Kung is seemingly a "stronghold".
