標題: [Noctuidae] Noctuidae larvae & host ID [打印本頁]

Seen this beautiful larvae feeding on the petals , with great camouflage color which similar to the branches of the host.  
Pls help for the ID, Thanks very much!

Around 2" long


with three pairs of prolegs


Seem the flower attractive to all of them
( The ant ID is ??)

Well, in the first place, since it has more than one pair of "prolegs", it cannot be Geometridae.   (see the moth larva ID index at http://www.hkwildlife.net/viewth ... amp;extra=page%3D1)

More llikely, given its posture and general appearance, it is most llikely a Noctuid larva, feeding on citrus, possibly lemon or grapefruit/pomelo.  
Do you remember where you saw it?  Any chance of talking you into attempting to finish rearing it to the moth stage???  At two inches, it probably is near the final instar stage.

I can't find the larvae again on the next day ...
I will keep visit the plant to search for it ...

nice larva - Noctuoid.

just like shopping in HK - if you see you rear.  Missed rearing opportunity.
So many species for which there is no ecological data known for moth larvae.
